Welcome to Otte-Gordon Landscapes LLC located in Louisville, KY. We are a Frank Otte company specializing in commercial landscaping and service the Louisville KY and the surrounding areas.

The name Frank Otte has been associated as one of the best nursery and landscaping companies in the Louisville and surrounding areas for over 45 years. In 2010, Frank Otte and I, Bruce Gordon, decided to restructure the Frank Otte Commercial Landscape Company under our new name, Otte-Gordon Landscapes, with me as a co-owner and lead project manager.

By doing this, we were able to lower our overhead, thus allowing us to be more competitive in the commercial landscape bidding process. Though our prices are more competitive, our workmanship, plant quality and customer service and satisfaction, has and always will, remain at the highest level.

Louisville Landscaping Tips and Landscaping Ideas

  • Mowing the Lawn

When cutting into your lawn, the blades need to be set as high as possible. The length of grass, preferably high, provides numerous amounts of benefits towards keeping the soil healthy and productive.

Tall blades of grass are able to obtain more light during peak sun hours and, in turn, will use this energy to produce and provide more nutrients to the roots and surrounding soil. Taller blades will also provide shade that allows for the soil surrounding each blade of grass to maintain moisture throughout the dry heat of most summer days.

  • How to Water Your Grass

It is important to have a plan set in place to help determine how often you are going to water your lawn. This plan has to be adhered to at all times due to the fact that if you go from watering consistently to never watering and back again, you will be effecting the lawn’s abilities to absorb nutrients. Without the ability to absorb, the grass will have nothing to feed off of and eventually die even with proper water treatment given.

    • The season will bring about a collection of warm days that will have kids going to the pool or playing in the backyard. Your grass does not need to be watered immediately at this point. The first sign of brown blades in your lawn as well as indentations from shoes left on the lawn will be telltale signs that watering can now begin. These signs usually state that the lawn is in a stressful situation and at this point will properly absorb anything to effectively revive itself.

    • When watering a lawn, make sure that the grass is completely soaked through so that all the moisture gets in the grass as well as seeps down into the soil and the roots. Once this is done, however, you shouldn’t have to run through this process again for another couple of days. Watering on an over-consistent basis will promote crab grass and weeds that will lead to extra lawn maintenance in the long run.
